Save the Children battles personal loss and devastation in the wake of Christmas Tsunami
Doing what they always do, teach and extend of themselves to those within the communities they serve, two Save the Children staff members and 30 local individuals (10 women learning to be midwives and 20 others attending a micro-loan seminar for economic development) perished in the crashing waves of the Christmas tsunami off the shore of Banda Aceh. A third staff member has yet to be found.
Save the Children, a seventy-year old charitable organizatin operating in the US and throughout the world, has been aiding children, families and communities of Indonesia for thirty years. More importantly, they've earned the trust and respect of the local communities (including those torn by civil conflict) necessary for a successful disaster relief campaign there.
Our special guest, Diane Sherman, offers a brief, but enlightening glimpse into how Save the Children presses on despite personal loss and sadness, and how you can help.
