Washington's Secret -- Medical Malpractice Tort Reform

This is payback week in Washington; hearings that if successful, will hold you -- the consumer -- liable for medical malpractice and negligence, to say nothing of your financial responsibility for the continued manipulation of reported information regarding drugs that can harm and kill. Your access to the legal system is being taken away, and your ability to hold physicians, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies acountable financially, diminishing.

If successful, you the consumer, will have a limit set on any monetary award for non-economic damages (pain and suffering) due to injury or loss of life itself, regardless of what a jury feels is appropriate compensation. In the most severe cases of malpractice and negligence, you will receive $250,000 tops for non-economic damages; a one-time payment that special interest groups (the malpractice insurance and pharmaceutical industries with a little help from the medical community) all agree, should be plenty for wasting their time in court.

Furthermore, if successful, this and other proposed new laws will in fact, make finding legal representation of your case in a court of law, nearly impossible...the REAL goal of Tort Reform.
